I have an 06 SMG and have had no problems thus far... mind you i drive my car in M all the time, and never like a grandma, so we'll see (and hope that there are no problems)... BTW these cars are designed and made to be with a 7 speed SMG, so i dont think going to a 6speed manual is going to do anything.. if anything you will probably burn out the clutch on the 6 speed quickker.

WHo knows,
How long have you had the car? How many miles on the car? What have you replaced since owning it? Are you still under warranty, if so for how long?

I plan on getting either a lower mileage 2006 or a 2007. I read mixed reviews about the SMG and really wanted a 6-speed manual until I drove an SMG equipped 07 M% and I instantly fell in love aside from the harshness of the shifts (although it probably gets better with practice).

Lemon? no.

130k+ miles yes
You are having some real trouble with BMWs aren't you?

Even with over 100,000 miles I do not think you should be spending $800-1000 a month on any modern car to keep it running short of a Lambo, Ferrari, or any other high-end exotic especially considering yours was a 545i.

had the car for a few years..

MAF,

Sliping clutch,

spark plugs,

all kinds of hoses and belts,

breaks/rotors,

radiators.

leaks in random places,

transmission bushings.

F***in Run flat bubbles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! changed it after the second set,
cracked rims.

accidents,

cup holders,

window motor,

the air bag light was on my damn car since i bought it. after calling bmw of NA for months, and them telling me my "vin" is not eligable for the recall, for fuc**ing months!!! they randomely one day said yes it is covered. another reason for my signature. if your gonna recall a part on a car, i dont undertand why it would be on only certain vins, what kind of bull sh!t is that?

countless things that i have forgot.

any kind of BS u could imaginethat could go wrong, went wrong with that car. but i always took care of it and it was a effin beast. untill the last month i sold her.

I've had the car a year October.... Put 18,000kms on it, bought with 9,000 kms. I have replaced some trimming and minor things, nothing in regards to the transmission or engine at all aside from a few qaurts of oil.

I had complaned about some minor harsh shifting in lower gears, but am told that the SMG in the e60 M5 is a little clunky when shifting and have not worried about it since.

My car is out of warranty in 2 weeks and in hibernation right now for the winter months.

Hope this helps, but i love my car to death as long as maintenance does not become an issue.

My car has been at the dealer for 3 weeks now. Just got a call with the following statement:

Sir, we think your clutch is gone, so we need to open up the tranny and check, labor cost is 200 bucks. If clutch is okay, you dont pay this amount. If clutch is gone, you pay this alongwith clutch replacement which should cost you around 3000 bucks!

My car just hit 19K miles. Someone please tell me how on earth a burnt clutch is my fault?????? On a f*cking SMG!!!!

That's pretty much the same question posted by M5poeser on this thread originally.

That aside, shouldn't they cover it under warranty? I know many people who have had their clutch replaced under warranty so why is your dealer charging you?

My dealer is trying his luck! Well... I can assure you his luck will run out with me!

I am not paying a single dollar for this! If my clutch is gone, then there's something seriously wrong with the transmission! And they are gonna do something about it!
