Haha STOP. I wanted a great car out of the box. I am trying to keep this car pretty stock. On my last car I didn pretty much every mod possible mod short of swapping out turbos i.e. exhaust, suspension, wheels, tires, tune, etc. Although a GT30 Trim turbo and built transmission was up next if I kept the car.....

Anyways, modding is too slipperly of a slope for me.

I would rather save up for a '97 911 Turbo S to sit beside the beast.

Or I could just get a SC from ESS when it comes out.....but do not tempt me

I like the M3 but I would not trade my M5 for one. It's probably just my personal opinion but I feel the M5 is like an "executive" class sedan which I preferred over the smaller M3.
So M3 owners are Peasants in your mind?

+1, no joke, i spend almost 30 bux a day on gas alone, driving around 24-55 miles a day... moderately, also like eurocarfan said.. keep away from the 06 models the transmissions are shit

You guys and your "early model 06's are shit" comments scare the shit out of me. I have a January 06' build date and havent had any problems with the transmission thus far. I have complained of heavy shifting at times, but the dealer has checked it out and assured me nothing is wrong. I looked into it a bit further and the m5 is known to shift hard with the SMG... at least so im told.

My warranty just ran up.. and im scared to think about some of the problems i may run into..

haha this is how forums scare people. People on Subaru forums love to say that the trannys are glass or the motors will blow, but like someone else has said forums usually bring more people out to tell the bad then the good. THe failure rate may be 5% or less, but on a forum that may be the only thing people read.

Brands and models of cars can be reliable or unreliable as a whole, but every individual car is diferent, unless the part is extremely faulty that it warrants a recall. You could buy the "most" reliable car in the world and have a ton of problems because it was built at the end of the day or numerous other factory issues. You could then buy the "least" reliable car and never have a problem.

It seems from the research I have seen the cars which are hampered with the most SMG issues or issues in general are the 2005 Build M5's, which does not suprise me because this was a brand new platform at that time and kinks needed to be worked out.

I can also tell that you run your car pretty hard judging by your cool (I love watching the vids race threads, not that the car should not be able to take it but everything will break if it is used at maximum performance a majority of the time. Everything has a breaking point. Which is why race cars (all types) are built to run a race or a few races at a maximum before their engines or trannys are rebuilt, because of all of the abuse they take.

Hopefully what I wrote made some sense. But it seems as if you take care of your car and do not run it at 110% most of the time and maintain the car on a severe maitenance program, than an M5 should be pretty good to you.

For the people that have done the above (which could be you , I would agree that it is pretty outrageous to have so many SMG issues.
