I'd imagine its just a replacement panel and should be pretty easy to self-fit.
definately going to get it if it fits mine.

No idea what the price will be, but I do know how to fit it, as I had to remove it to install my Nokia hands-free kit.....
1) Prise ofthe wood (or metal) trim that runs betweent the centre vents under the screen and the door vent. This just pops off with the aid of a flat bladed tool (screw driver) taking care not to damage the poished surface. Once it's free, disconnect the plug serving the hazard warning lights swith and the central locking button.
2) This step may differ for thos who do not have advanced air-con, as I do. undo the screws that hold the air-con controls in place. Remove the unit.
3) Ensuring all securing screws are removed, insert a long screw driver, to be used as a lever, down behind the fascia covering the CD slots, and lever foward. This fascia is the same piece of mouling that surrounds the cluster of buttons that are at the bottom of the console, so pull from the bottom too. It is quite a firm fit, so you have to use a bit of force.
4) Refitting is exactly the reverse of removal.
I got these instructions from BMW, but take care, as it's been a few months since I did this, and my memory may be a little vague, but you do have to start by removing the long piece of dash trim. After that, it's fairly obvious how to remove.

Great info! This one should be in the DIY part of E60.net!

Hmm.. any pics of this? I'm curious as to what piece or pieces would be replaced with wood trim? There's two sections of plastic, one section where the A/C controls are and one section where the CD/NAV slots are below.
If you replace only the the section with the CD player that'll leave the plastic where the A/C are and will look quite wierd no? So I guess both need to be replaced?
The rear console piece was around $80 I believe so replacing both of those could be a little pricey around $200 - $300 I guess?

I've looked at several pictures of the dashboard and I noticed the lines on the dash flow very nice. With the wood replacements in the middle of the dash the lines don't flow any more. I hope I make sense in what I mean.
The 6 series doesn't have the wood that flows over the complete dashboard. Only some small loose parts so I feel different about the 6.

I have seen a black and white copy that was scanned and I also noticed that only the lower part is covered with wood.
Can't find the pdf anymore.
