I've been ringing around for prices to get my windows tinted and one firm has told me that the front side windows cannot be tinted due to the fact that they are already tinted to the maximum that is aloud on UK ROADS - 30% tint.(they haven't seen the car but say this is standard). Seeing as my Wife works for the Police Traffic dept. I really cannot be pushing my luck with TOO darkened glass.

 

That sounds about right. In the US, 25% - 30% is the maximum tint you can have by law on the front two windows...which is what comes on stock from the dealer. On the back and rear windows, you can go as dark as you want.

 

i thought the two front windows had to let at least 75% of ambiant light through...so this % can change with the weather.
i dont know of any standard car that has a tint of 25 - 30 % already, that would be very dark?
i have 25% tint on all doors and rear window, and have been stopped by the old bill, and they connected a magnetic instrument to my windows and it shone a light through and recorded 72% of light so they said this was within limits (just) and let me go.
i can post a pic of the cars tints if you want?

 

Had them tested today (by the police) and mine let 77% light through.........so standard seems tobe 23% tint. Booooo!!
