What works with the iPod Connector
#1
Hi
Just had the new iPod connector installed in my 535d Touring. Excitedly connected up my iPod only to find it didn't work! Turns out mine is a 3G and isn't compatible. Doh! So, got to get myself a new iPod.
Question: does anyone know if the whizzy new 80GB iPod Video works with the new connector? I'm loathe to shell out money until I've been reassured (it's all too much for my dealer whose staff keep muttering that they don't know much because the connector has only been out for 5 weeks). The BMW iPod Connector Manual states 'in future firmware updates for your iPod, it is possible that some of the functions described in these operating instructions may no longer apply'.
I think the instructions are saying that as well as having an obsolete iPod it is also possible to get one that is too far ahead of the connector!
Can anyone help?
Best
Phil

Any 4G or newer iPod or Nano and I think the Mini. I have one of the original Nano and it works fine as does my 4G 40GB iPod. Any new iPod should work as long as it's not the shuffle.

Many thanks, it does indeed work. Love the sound and the elegance of the solution. Dislike the fact that it can't get past 'N' on my list of albums (there is a finite limit of albums it can read into the car's memory) and that the iDrive isn't a patch on the iPod for scrollability (a new word, you heard it here first).

I have the same problem, I can only reach songs startting by 'H' and albums by 'N'. My solution: I manually created playlists grouping songs from 'A' to 'D', 'E' to 'J' and so on... What we in Information Technologies call a "work around"...
What we in the IT field call automation.

Model Year: 2010
Does anyone know the actual limiting factor.
I ran out of room on my iPod interface at about playlist number 186. I would have thought it might have been playlist #255 ofr 256.
Is the limit the result of the amount of free RAM in the CCC or by the register size - i.e. "256" = "2^8"
If the former - I would guess that the number of playlists, albums, artists etc. will move about - if the latter why could I not see 255 or 256 playlists?

Try using "smart play lists"
