Guys,

Time to buy an Radar detector for me... since Valentine V1 and now 9500i in same price range.. which one to go for. 9500i seems to be more technologically advanced w/ new features.

Since 9500i is out for a while, whats the final feedback? I know lot of ppl did V1 install on top of rear-view mirror, can 9500i be done in same way?

VS

Review of both:

Both are great detectors. I have V1 but I bought one long long before 9500i came out.
My friend has 9500ix which has speed/red light camera alerts. Living in AZ, very helpful indeed.
My opinion is that if you choose 9500i, you won't miss the arrows since you never experienced with it.
Same goes for V1, if you buy this over over 9500i, you won't miss spec display, GPS lock out,
camera alerts, blue LED, etc.
Buy whatever you feel like it.

I have been using a new 9500ix for a few weeks now. The internal GPS unit seems to work reasonable well. It has "learned" all of the background false alarms in the areas that I do 95+% of my usual driving, such that it no longer goes off for the usual false alarms. If it senses something, I know I had better pay attention.

For me, if a detector is going off all the time with false alarms, I know that over time I will simply stop paying attention to it. The 9500ix handles this problem very well by only going off when there is a real threat.

The DIY hardwire worked well expect I used a smaller tap, one that was for 18-22g wires

Great!! Yeah that's exactly my main concern... I had friends in other detectors, OMG it was annoying as hell just to sit in their car for 15mins lol... It's like the whole 15mins you are alerted w/ loud beeps lol!!

Could you pls post pics on how you mounted it and the hard wiring... I think you need to get the STEALTH mirror wire right..

All I can say is the V1 has saved me more than a few time in the last couple of years.. Plus, it's very easy to adapt to being hardwired directly into the electrical system of either an E39/E60... And, I do like the directional arrows pointing to where the source is located.

Same here on the Saves by V1 --- my comment was not to take away from performance of the unit, I just wonder aloud whether the technology is still at the forefront given the evolution of LEO's arsenal... Also, what you say about direct hard-wire may be true of pre-LCI, but I can tell you the V1 hardwire into the overhead console on an LCI is not easy, in fact the dealer could not find a switched-power circuit up there that would work properly -- LCI's monitor not only current draw but power condition parameters such that the V1 presence on those circuits creates lots of other faults.
