I highly recommend this:

I have had it for a year and so far have been very happy with it. It tucks in the back outlet right next to the aux in and is out of sight and out of mind. And your phone can switch back and forth between the aux jack for music and phone through the BMW automatically.

I just upgraded my cable to an MSA-1 from bluejeanscable and they're putting a custom right-angle plug for the AUX-IN termination. I'm going to dedicate an ipod to lossless bit rate 1411 kbps and see how it sounds. Not sure if I trust the DAC in the iphone or head unit more?

Amazing right angle termination, should fit pretty flush in the jack.

This is the one you want. You have to turn the others on whenever you want to use them and take them out to charge their batteries, unless you leave them plugged in to a USB power source in the vehicle. Not for this one. It comes on with the car, pairs right up, and goes without you having to do a thing. Great solution.
