Needed extra space for CD cases in center console below armrest.
Since I do not use the traditional car phone no need for the huge plastic box "go blue tooth"!

Time: 30 min
Tools:
  1. Fine tooth metal saw blade see picture
  2. 150grid sandpaper

Dealer quote to remove the box was a ridiculous $500 and he would have left two unfinished areas on either side where the hinges reside. Quick inexpensive fix cut both hinges on either side of the box. First push telephone box to right side use saw within created gap on left side. Repeat same procedure on the right side by pushing the box to the left. Use sand paper to smooth frayed area.

Dude!

That's an '09 judging from the idrive in the pic, and your first post.

Impressive you just took a saw to a brand new car.

I actually like the little compartment you hacked out. I keep gum, tire pressure gauge, etc. in there. Sometimes I put trash in there until I get home or to a gas station.

What are these "CDs" you are talking about? Do our cars still come with CD player?

Now that takes guts... a hack saw blade wrapped in a paper towel to the new ride!
