corrrect. The M-Sports steering wheels do not offer paddle shift functionality. If you want that in combination with the M sterring wheel you have to get an actual M5/M6 steering wheel and mod it to fit to the steering wheel module and also mod the back of the steering wheel to fit pre-05 vehicles. post-05 cars only need to mod for the module.

Not sure I fully follow. I do want to get an M5 steering wheel and install on my '08. I currently have paddle shifters, but the left and the right ones downshift by pulling in and upshift by pushing away. I know this is different than what the M5 paddles do...ie left and right serve different functions. If I use an OEM M5 steering wheel, can the shifters be wired to work on my car?

Thx

what i was trying to say is that the M sports steering wheel does not have an option for paddles. you have to get the M5/M6 steering wheel with SMG and mod the steering wheel or get the sports steering wheel with SMG paddles.

So you have OEM SMG?

Found out today that the M5 steering wheel can fit my car no problem. I can even use my existing airbag. That would save about $700. Was also told that the paddle shifters can even be wired to work correctly...one for upshift and one for downshift. Now I just need to pull the trigger.
