I like that AC option! Where can I get that dealer or online? What would be the cheapest method?
make sure it has the heat...
Felix:
So the part# 32340409261 is basic plug and play swap for my wheel and I dont lose any functions like heat, radio and phone? Plus what does LCI mean? This is my first BMW so forgive me for not knowing all the acronyms?
correct, it is plug and play. LCI refers to 08 and newer models, Life Cycle Impulse or something like that.
Also you said you installed this in 15mins? Then would I be able to take the same steps as described here: E90 DIY Steering Wheel Replacement ?
pretty similar- except you push UP to release the airbag, and you won't need to switch the buttons from the old wheel to the new one, the new will bring its own.

Just to confirm if I go with part# 32340409261 I will need to get a NEW airbag?
for the *third* time today on this very thread, if your airbag is not round you will need to get a new one, using the part # listed above. I can't see your airbag from here, so I'm assuming you have the same trapezoidal-shaped airbag all the other non-smg 06 cars came with. If your airbag looks like the one in the AC Schnitzer picture, then you will need a new one since it is not round. Am I not explaining this well? I don't see how I could possibly clarify that any further.

Anyone who sells authentic AC parts should be able to order them for you. CEC would probably be the most familiar with with them.

CEC is probably the biggest importer of Alpina. You can also try KSK. Both of them are local to me.

I could get a likely new m-sport wheel for 680€. Airbag included.
How does the price sound to you my fellow modders? Reasonable?
I would install it myself.

edit: Ok, that would be 900$ / 607?

Does anyone know if the M5 steering wheel can be a direct replacement for the non M e60?

I don't know if the airbag can be reused or if the steering wheel requires a different airbag (my guess is it does). I was quoted by the dealer around $1500 for the steering wheel with airbag.

They also thought I would have to get the manual transmission steering wheel b/c the paddle shifters would not be compatible with the shifters that are currently on my 550.

What are some other aftermarket options to have a nicer feeling, thicker steering wheel.

Thx
you will be better of buying an e60 m sport steering wheel and you will need a round airbag to fit the new wheel but make sure that the airbag came from the same year as the wheel...even though they look the same they arent.

for example - an air bag from a 2003 e60 msport will not fit an msport wheel from a 2006 e60 even though they look identicle...trust me i made that mistake.

that's not a bad price, just make sure the date range matches...the cutover from old wheel/airbag to new was 9/05, make sure you get the right wheel and airbag. go to bmwfans.info to get the right part #s.

Thanks Jazzy

Is it correct that the paddle shifters would not work though?
