Just found out that you can not swap the shift levers itself since 205 one is a single piece stalk that goes into the module while 2TB is a two piece design where the handle comes apart.

About what module do you talk. ? Joistick is module itself, called GWS, no matter its 205 or 2TB.

Here is what I mean
Below is 2TB module with lever handle removed

But you cant do the same with 205 module

as the lever handle is integrated to the actual rod that does the internal switching.
So swapping the handle covers is not possible between the two.

I understand now. But that's not necessary, you can easily swap whole shifter.

Yes, its easy to swap the whole thing if I can find the whole thing for less. The car that I took off the module from, someone else already took away the top handle and trim cover with switch.

Looking at the prices of new cover, handle and switch is coming about the same price as a used whole unit with all of them included , but then the used ones are not in great cosmetic shape though.

Price are insane. If you want i can ask local bmw used parts seller. 2 years ago non sport shifter was 30€, sport 80€.
You want it just for how it looks? Or you think shift paddles will not work with non sport shifter?

Are those prices for the whole thing? If it is, then that is a great price.

From what I understood, the paddles should work either way as long as you program the car with 2TB option replacing 205, but then you are limited to what 205 GWS does.
Since I need to reprogram all necessary modules, I thought its better to just replace shift module as well and I have the module on hand that I got for only $35 except no handle, switch and cover.

Let me know if you can find one that is in good shape and we can go from there.

thanks

Yes its was price for complete thing. I bought from them non sport one for 30€ . Because mine was damaged, when cic was stolen.
Seems its rare thing these days, no one have, but if have , ask 500€ :-( in my area. Better get one on ebay i saw it for less.

thats highway robbery compared to prices over here at the least. May be I will keep a watchful on the salvage yard listings and stop by as soon one shows up with that option (hopefully can grab one before someone grabs it away)

Was looking at the normal shifter today that got my hands on and noticed that it has the 8pin connector in the same location as the sport shifter where the 'SPORT' button is connected. Wondering if this shifter is capable of doing the same as SAT if it is programmed to do that and when a SPORT button is connected

Anyone tried doing this?
