WINKFP is used to make firmware changes and you will need to do that to change your EGS module software to the SAT version. It doesn't have to be done right away and the car runs fine without it.. you just don't get all the benefits of the upgrade. Also, you will of course want to change your VO to correctly match the new options and code the car but this will not change the underlying firmware in the EGS as mentioned above.

Check out my related SAT retrofit thread. Terraphantm was a lot of help in getting the firmware sorted out.

Did I read somewhere in the thread, that one can use the original surroounding with the insert of the SAT? Why I'm asking is because the version with leather is not available anymore and the one I have on the standart atomatic is a leather version. Once I disassemble everything I will see that, but decided to ask upfront

Well... you have the issue with needing a hole to mount the sport button.

@timiboy: You can buy the one without leather as you will need the silver part where your shifter boot is going to lock and the hole for the sport button. But you can replace the side part by slowly prying the silver part out. There are latches at the bottom. I have matt black, but I bought the one with gloss black, as in the future i might replace to gloss black, that is why I replaced the side portion with the one from my matt black.

Yes I can confirm that's exactly what I did, the leather trim is much nicer, just be careful not to break the latches underneath

Thumbs up

@ likhan_s & leew88

Thanks guys, that's exactly what I wanted to know

@ NoQuarter

I will check Your thread more precisely these days when I start the whole retrofit. The major trouble is that for the moment it is not clear if an "official" VO can be obtained for a 530dX featuring SAT. If not, we will have to change the VO "manualy".
