Pfff, how did you install that Alpine headunit?
And how is the Vehicle hub doing? Do you have a BMW nav screen with video of the VH connected? Does it have any video noise? I heard that BMWs can generate noise on the video signal of the VH.

thx, Erik.

Isn't the 1000.1 an overkill? i don't want to burn out the subwoofer... its rms 750 and peaks at 1200.
Maybe $300?
you dont need the 1000/1 the 500/1 would work or the kicker sx 650.1, memphis pr1.1000, arc audio Kar 900.1d, DLS RA10. The DLS would be my first choice.

That is not a head unit. It is the controler for the h701. There is no back to it like a head unit.

A 1000/1 is not overkill for a Kicker S12L7--but it's also not necessary. A 12" L7 will work well with anywhere between 500-1000 watts RMS. The important thing is to have your amp's gains/settings set correctly (especially if you're giving a sub more than its rated power). If you're feeding that sub 1000 true watts RMS, you should be fine just so long you watch your gains. Another thing to keep in mind is that overpowering a sub will ultimately shorten it's lifespan.

Here's the "perfect" amp for that sub (under $280 shipped). The birthsheets on these babies are insane--you'll likely see 900+ watts RMS!

So are you happy with the Kicker VS12L7?

Not as happy as i thought i would be... its hard to get bass thru that metal sealed trunk of mine.
I think if i pick up a little more powerfull amp i might be happy.... that kicker amp might be it.

How do i set my amp gains/settings correctly? i know nothing about that...

Most of the time i have my bass set all the way down so i don't think i will reduce the lifespan of my sub that much...

man your trunk must be sealed. Forum member bmw4life has the 2 kicker s12 l5 and that thing pounds. you should try it out

EDIT: btw, what box do you use? a ported box will give you more bass that a sealed one. I did a comparison between my car and another forum member with the same JL sub and makes a big difference.

A ported box will give you more output, but it wont sound as good if you use a sealed box. im using a sealed box thats also sealed from the trunk, with the sub firing at the ski hole.

If you all about sound quality a ported box is a big no-no. i have one 12" and im super happy with the output. it play really low and accurate musical tight bass.

One tip, especially if you going ported to make sure you deadened the trunk really good. i used almost 100 sq ft of sound deadener in my car and it doesnt rattle at all. the bass stays inside

You shouldve checked on the classified section i had a mint DLS A6 mono amp that i sold for $300 last week. 870 watts rms into 2 ohm and 1200 into 1 ohm. a highly regarded amp in the car audio forums. PURE SQ.
