Hi everyone,

For those who have smoked tailights- did you purchase smoked tailights or have someone smoke them for you?

I know a guy who can spray them for $70 and was wondering what you guys think.

I'm thinking of lightly smoking them, just to kind of gray out the clear part.

Thanks
Mike

I bought the Hella smoked taillights. Can't be more happier.
Plus, I still got the stock one just in case I need to swap them.

If you're looking to smoke only the clear part, you should get these:

Check out member "cmansbimmer". He's got them, and they look tight!

I actually had my stock lights just smoked at a body shop. They put a clear grey laquer on it and came out really nice but it was about $200...
Sorry i dont have pics of it up yet

I sent my tails and reflectors out to Jon's Tinted Tails out in NY. Turnaround time was about a week. Total came to $150 plus next day air (wanted it back right away). Mine are darker than you might want, but hey, that's how I like 'em. You can choose light, med-light, med, med-dark (mine), or dark.

Check out his website:

Chang - Just as FANTASTIC 5 mentioned below (Thank you F 5 ), I got the film from this seller. It's laser cut to fit directly on to the clear part of the rear tail light. However, it requires you to fit it as if you were tinting the window. That means you'll need a spray bottle of soapy water, a hairdryer or heat gun and a squeegee. If you're not handy, I would take the film to a local tint shop, throw them $10 or $20 and have them do it. I did it myself, but would suggest having a professional do it.

Anyway, the tails look great. I get compliments all the time and most of the time, people think they are sprayed. And the best part is, I paid $20!

I always assumed you had some expensive aftermarket tinted hellas or other light clusters -- it looks a LOT more than just a $20 mod!

Thanks for the info -- I might just have to take a closer look at that...

Ha! That's the best part. Everyone can't believe it when I tell them $20! Actually, to be honest, I paid $15 as this person used to have a store on eBay, which is where I first found them. But shipping was $5, so that made the $20. I believe if you click on the link above, he has them priced at $20 with a $5 shipping fee. Still though, $25 is nothing and it's a great mod. Plus, once you have the film on there, it's so smooth and even. You can't even tell that it's a film.

And of course, if you don't like it after you put it on, just reheat it and pull it off. Losing $25 is nothing when compared to spending $150-$200 and not liking it.
