And amazingly enough, that is exactly what my dealer charged (see above)!? Assuming asg is charged for 2 hours of labor like I was, BMW of Manhattan is charging $267.50 PER HOUR for labor!!!!? Runaway!? Runaway!

If you look at my earlier post in this thread that breaks down my charges, you'll see the exact costs of these parts. Just like kscarrol, my dealer charged me properly for the parts. (Actually $364.85 but who's counting...)

What's interesting is that my dealer, aside from giving me a CCA discount on parts and labor (nice!), they only charged me for 1.5 hours of labor! Do I like my dealer? Absolutely!

Now to call Sirius and see if I can get a free year....

What are the typical cost to get it installed?? North American BMW told me the recommended price was $350 (module) +$9.95 (bracket) + 1 hour of labor, but told me inexperienced service centers may charge 2 hours of labor.? Does anyone have first hand experience with this installation and the cost they paid?

I'm over in Chapel Hill and have a date with Leith in Raleigh (where I bought the car) to install Sirius in my March 2004 545i 6 speed with Nav, sat prep., etc. on Friday, Jan. 21st. They quoted me $605 installed. The parts come to about $390 and labor is 2 1/2 hours at about $90 per. I'm keeping my fingers crossed regarding the installation, particularly the software update.

Hi Jack,

I bought my car at Leith also. Thanks for the advice. The price is clearly $100+ greater than at other dealerships. I probably won't add Sirius for a few months and hopefully more experience will decrease the time of the install and, therefore, the cost.

After having the car all day yesterday (Friday), Leith was unable to get the receiver to be "recognized" by Sirius. They tried the software install twice. They believe that with BMWNA help they can get it set up Monday. In the meanwhile, I decided to keep the loaner - a 330xi - which is ok but I want my 545i 6 speed back asap. I see the pricing is all over the lot but Performance came back from over $800 to the same $600 but I decided to stay with Leith. Wish me luck and maybe they will be learning on my car but I wouldn't count on it taking less "standard" time.

Stay tuned.

Picked up 545i from Leith this afternoon (Monday, Jan. 24). Sirius works like a charm and also got the first year of Sirius at no cost. Looks like they have the Sirius/Nav software conflict solved.

Is the SAT PREP still required to be able to get the Sirius installed in e60's with NAV? My car was built May-04, during the period when BMW was not allowing sat prep any more (they would remove it from the order), supposedly because this was all going to be a software fix.

Has anyone here been able to get Sirius retrofit in a NAV-equipped car WITHOUT sat prep?

Thanks, this is driving me nuts.....

I just got mine back today. I have NAV, and the total cost was $539.07... I had teh work performed by United BMW...

As soon as I got in the car I called in to have it activated. I told them that I just got my new BMW, and that I wanted to activate my free year of service. They checked the ESN, said no problem and it was working within a couple of minutes...

Refresh my memory James. You did have the Sat Prep on your car didn't you? I thought if you didn't have the Sat Prep, you were SOL in terms of getting Sirius, at least the integrated w/ the iDrive version.

Yes, I had SAT prep ( I don't know how I got lucky on that one), but I'm a few days to early for BT.... I think you're correct about being SOL with no prep...

My questions is "does the Sirius pre-wire have to come from the factory or can the dealer do with with software only - if I have Navigation?"
