I replaced the Bridgestone run flats with Pirelli P Zero Rosso's on 17" 138 rims in July when I collected the car. I drove it for 2 days on the Bridgestones before the tyre swap. Even the initial pulling away after the replacement was noticable. I have 1200kms so probably too early to determine if there are any issues.

Besides the ride, the noise from the Bridgestones was almost un-barable.?

I would definitely recommend a swap to non-runflats.?

Can the dealer do it for free before I take the car when my car gets here from Germany? They will keep the run-flat and i go with the all seasons.

The Rim has nothing to do with the tire. The Tire is Run Flat, not the rim. You can put any of the properly fitting tires on any rim. Go to http://www.TireRack.com for any fitment questions.

I had it negotiated as part of the deal. Tyres replaced for no charge to me. Well I actually brought it up after he we finalised the cost to change. He sort of coughed but went through with it anyway. The tyre shop were happy to take run flats in even after a few days driving. I believe they charged the dealer around ?45 per tyre.

I had ordered a spare wheel and jack with my previous E60 (even though I left the run flats on it) and I just took that with me when I changed. I was thinking of swapping the tryes on that one but he was looking for ?600 last year. This time around I was more wise and got it as part of the trade in.

They are right, but unfortunately there is alot of ignorance on the part of the dealer/service dept. When I inquired about the style 135 rims, my parts guy made a big issue of the fact that they use runflat tires and some ridiculous story about the FTM. I tried to explain to him that the FTM had nothing to do with the rim. You can do it, I will as soon as things settle down an I get the house in New Orleans taken care of...

I think this is accurate but for those of you leasing, I am pretty sure you need to turn the car in with runflats installed. Something to keep in mind and check on in case I'm all wet.... :'(

Naturally, if your car came with runflats, this should apply...if not...then you're fine but I don't know which cars come with runflats and which do not.

As mentioned in the above post, the tire is runflat not the rim so you can put in any tire that fits. Non runflats have better ride quality because of a softer tirewall. There are a few members in Hong Kong that will switch to non runflat after their runflat expired.

To answer the question, the runflat tire should have a RSC logo on the tirewall which stands for Runflat System Components

thanks guys, that is what I thought, the rim is normal only the runflat tire is different. So sad that each BMW dealer gives me different answer. Some of them even in Munich mention that the rim is runflat too ????????

anyway, now can a size 225 tire be fitted to 17" style 122 rim (currently 245 size tire)

Hi guys, sorry for opening new thread to this, but I really did search previous threads and there is still no clear answer.

Can a original BMW runflat rim be fitted with NON-runflat tire ?
I have both, yes and no answers so far.

I have Star Spoke Style 122 rims
Wheel Size: 17"
Tire Size: 245/45R-17 RUNFLAT summer tires

I want to put winter non-runflat tire on this rim. Possible?

2nd question:
Also can I fit 225-45 or 235-45 size winter tire on this rim?

I'm really tring to find out definite answer to this. Each dealer ship gives me different answer.

Anybody with exactly the same wheel who has already done this swap?

IMO the rim is not runflat......... the tyre is so you can fit any tyre to it
