Thumbs up

Hi guys, sorry for opening new thread to this, but I really did search previous threads and there is still no clear answer.

Can a original BMW runflat rim be fitted with NON-runflat tire ?
I have both, yes and no answers so far.

I have Star Spoke Style 122 rims
Wheel Size: 17"
Tire Size: 245/45R-17 RUNFLAT summer tires

I want to put winter non-runflat tire on this rim. Possible?

2nd question:
Also can I fit 225-45 or 235-45 size winter tire on this rim?

I'm really tring to find out definite answer to this. Each dealer ship gives me different answer.

Anybody with exactly the same wheel who has already done this swap?

Don't do it. Buy a second set of wheels to put winter tires on. Your summer-time experience will be much better with the performance tires. I did mine through Tire Rack for less than $1200.

Many forum members replaced their run-flats with non run-flats.

I don't think there will be any problems...
Only lots of comfort improvement.

I switched my run flats for Michelin PS2's without any problems, only improvements.

I've heard this helps a lot. I've got 6,000 miles on my 530i, and will probably switch to non-run flats too. Longer tread life as well as better handling. What have other forum members done for a spare? I have the temporary spare in my trunk (always thought it was strange to have that with the runflats). I've got style 124 wheels. Can I buy another wheel, mount a "normal" tire (size 245/40x18) on it, and put it in the trunk? Will it fit? Seems like that is the way to go if it will fit. That way, if you ever have to use it, you're not limited to 50-60 MPH.

I changed to non-runflats (Continental SportContact2s - good compromise between enhanced handling and greater comfort) on 18-inch M-Sport rims that come with the UK Sports model (Style 135?). I had to buy a spare + ancillary kit (you need to a new under-trunk liner, the standard one won't fit the spare) - and it only seems to take a 17-inch spare.

Really recommend the switch, btw - hopefully in a year or so there'll be a new generation of RFs coming along which will sort out the current problems regarding ride quality and road holding/handling, but until then...

I replaced the Bridgestone run flats with Pirelli P Zero Rosso's on 17" 138 rims in July when I collected the car. I drove it for 2 days on the Bridgestones before the tyre swap. Even the initial pulling away after the replacement was noticable. I have 1200kms so probably too early to determine if there are any issues.

Besides the ride, the noise from the Bridgestones was almost un-barable.

I would definitely recommend a swap to non-runflats.
