hi guys,

i came across this on m5board.

apparently, BMW updated their retrofit LCI head and tail lights on 01/08 according to the pdf (attached).

So anyway, i wanted to change only my tail-lights, and my build is after 09/06 so i wont be needing the light modules.

Do any of you know if i can get my tail lights working by just getting this retrofit cable for $50 and getting my software updated? or do u think its not gonna work if i dont install the headlights as well (because the software update is for both the head and tail lights).

Here is the price breakdown.

Total $3,750

Cables $50
Light Modules $500 (needed if built before 09/06)
Tail-lights $500
Headlights $1,100 + $1,100
Install $500

If you don't do the front headlights then you will loose your Angle Eyes. Also you need to account for programming charges as well besides the install. But otherwise this is the OEM solution which is the best and those who've done it will tell you the money was worth it.

i think OEM solution is best if done for both front and rear lights. Programming and install charges in Bangladesh is peanuts, but loosing the angel eyes will not be my choice of MOD.

.76mm not .79mm exhaust tip, i dont think there is any .79 mm tip.... and you are getting M5 instrument cluster not M. So what did you decide on the whole KIT? or just the tail lights?

there is a cheaper solution for you, but its a bit third worldish lol , i did it with my 04 LX 470, I DO NOT know same will work with the BMW or not, should be the same principle. I installed LED rear lights of 2006 in my 2004 LX 470, it displayed a light bulb fuse error on the dash, my electric guy sliced the original wires and connected the bulbs that needed to be connected from the original light case, and then plugged in the new light, and voala, it worked , no error msg and the leds worked fine, only thing was tucking away the loose bulbs which was connected with the wiring. There is a lot of space in the LX 470 light housing so it wasnt much of a problem. Bruce if you are reading this, thats a possibility or not?
