The DVD player is a module of the CCC unit, it can be swapped individually (there's a SIB on how to do it for BMW service techs). The screen is the same, however, if I recall correctly, the connection between the screen and the CCC is different in later cars. The screen is connected via a cable to the CCC, they are separate parts though.

Agreed, if it's a reasonably priced and a DIY type of project (even if it takes a good amount of time) a lot of us with Pre-LCI cars would consider this mod. Please post a DIY if you figure out how to do it, I'd be very interested to see it.

Hey all,

I am in same boat currently. My car is 2004 530i with Professional Navigation and CD Changer in glove box. The problem is my CCC unit got fried and after searching I am able to source a newer CCC unit from 06-08 (HW 12.6). The part numbers are different ofcourse.

My question is the same as OP. Is this a plug and play mod? Since I am unlikely to source a local Indy with coding qualifications (not many qualified BMW Techs in Saudi Arabia outside of dealership), if I did not code, what features would be lost in this job ?

Another issue is that my car is European model and the donor E60 is US based. There is a label on the CCC unit saying US E60/61. Does that makes any difference ?

i had to downgrade lci ccc gw to get idrive knob work properly.

What is the "GW" and how do you downgrade it ?
What will be missing in functionality, if I did not bother with the downgrade ?

No need to downgrade if everything works ok. Idrive controller wasnt working on 2005/6 at all so it needed to be done to get it to work. Everything works like worked with old pre-lci CCC. Used winkfp to flash most-gw (gw).
