Hey all

With the speed police ever clamping down here in the UK, I'm tempted to buy a radar/laser detector - question is, are they worth it?

I'm looking at http://www.radarbusters.com/products/escort/solo_2.asp as I like the cordless operation; other than that maybe a valentine 1?

Do other owners use these things, and what sort of success rate do you get?

cheers

Didn't know you needed a radar detector in romania, hungary etc. - do they actually pulll you over for speeding? Spent 2 months in Germany (speeding everywhere),met with members of the bmw na club while I was out there, none of the members had even thought of buying radar.

Another thing, don't have diesal, but I heard it rocks. Especially with gas prices.

Yes but I refered to "bettermakehisway".. he is from Ro, and yes they pull you off the road and sometimes you can manage with some 100s of euros but if you find a hard-necked, you are in trouble. In Germany I also speed a lot but oly where is allowed.

I used several solo radar detectors. They were not that reliable. Several broke. I don't think the battery provides enough power to do as good a job as one plugged in or hardwired, especially as the batteries weaken. It has a low battery warning, but I felt like the range was affected by weakened batteries before the low battery warning engaged.

Escort is a good brand but the battery operated ones are weak in my opinion.

The valentine one is the best in my opinion. The arrows are truly priceless and are a big help in knowing where the threat is located. I would not be without them after having them. And no, I don't work for valentine.

In the past, I had Phazer(Mountain Rock), whistler, Escort.... but now with valentine 1 is another thing.

On my car, on highway, I use too a Mitac MIO 168 GPS with "autovelox maps fixed and mobile"( as a point of interest file) updated every 2-days from internet. Very cool option .
The valentine 1 is forbidden bur Mitac Mio no

Will a V1 work overseas? Do they use the same radar guns that are used in the US? I would hazard a "yes" to that but I don't know for sure.

If so, V1 is the one to get. The 3 directional finders on it are invaluable. Also, if you want to more visually located the V1, be sure to spring for the Remote Display as well. I put mine at the corner of the dash/windshield...just snaked the wire down the a-pillar.

I like Radar Roy, but I would buy a Valentine 1. Yes they are worth it; one save and one pays for itself in the US all things considered. I have had 2 legitimate saves. My V1 was more than free.
