Damn! That sure is a lot of work! Hope they perform well! That would be a real bummer if they didn't! G/l with the project! Are you the first one that you know of that has done this mod?

Hah...says the guy with the 911 project in the works. As long as they perform the same or better than the OEM manifolds I'll leave them in. I'm hoping/expecting to see around 10-15hp at the wheels. More than that would be even better. I doubt I'm the first to do this mod, but I haven't spoken to, seen or heard any stories from anybody who has done SuperSprint headers on their v8 e60. There is at least one guy here on the forums who did RD Sport headers on his v8 though.

Some final photos to wrap this thread up..
Tim's shop, Muffler King in Kirkland connected the headers up to the existing cat-back. They did a great job and were easy/fun to work with. I think I'll eventually have his shop build a stainless replica of my current 'final draft' exhaust system because it sounds amazing and performs well.
Nevermind the lack of screws holding on the underguard. I snapped these photos while they were buttoning things up.![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)

Guess what arrived..finally, after 6 months...
Attachment 121708
The quality of the headers is good. I might get in there with a grinder and smooth out a couple welds, but aside from that I think they will be an improvement over the OEM exhaust manifolds. Can't wait to get these installed. I'm may install them myself.![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
In the process of setting up an appointment to get my car baselined again before the installation since I've made some changes since my last dyno run.
Anybody opposed to using header wrap other than the fact that it's ugly?

I am highly opposed to header wrap. It will trap moisture and cause premature wear (rust and cracks of the metal). Do a little research on ceramic coatings. I have the headers on my Evo race car ceramic coated and I can actually grab the header bare handed after 6 runs down the track....it is amazing. Unfortunately my experience with the wrap on that car caused many woes!!

I was browsing through Roundel magazine and discovered that Schmiedmann offers a set of headers for the N62 platform as well. They market their headers as 'sport manifolds' and target their marketing material at the 645ci and 650i. The part number is SCM64550 and here are a couple photos:

It looks like the OEM exhaust manifold parts for the 545/550 are the same as the 645/650:
OEM Parts for 645/650:
01 Rmfd exhaust manifold with catalyst ZYL.1-4 (ULEV2) 1 18407575126 $1,270.49
02 Rmfd exhaust manifold with catalyst ZYL.5-8 (ULEV2) 1 18407575127 $1,270.49OEM Parts for 545/550:
01 Rmfd exhaust manifold with catalyst ZYL.1-4 (ULEV2) 1 18407575126 $1,270.49
02 Rmfd exhaust manifold with catalyst ZYL.5-8 (ULEV2) 1 18407575127 $1,270.49
These sport manifolds from Schmiedmann should bolt to the cylinder head just fine but it's probably worth looking into whether or not the clearances on the 545/550 will suffice. At roughly $1500.00 for a set of headers, these might be worth looking into. I was unable to find dyno sheets for these 'sport manifolds' but I hope to see somebody fit these into a 545/550 and produce some results.
