I hear you. And I am jealous.

I worked up a sweat cleaning the remaining snow, ice and slush off of my drive way yesterday - it looked great! Until it snowed last night... More coming tomorrow.

I QUIT!!!

Not sure. Some guy told me yesterday that he got his filled and he doesn't have that slight wobble from the steering while driving. Says it's smoother. ???

The only real advantage of nitrogen is it's dry. Because it lacks moisture, you don't get the kind of pressure change you get with your TYPICAL air fillup. If you fill your tires at a station that has an air compressor with a well maintained moisture separator, clear auto drain valve, etc, than it's just as good.

Furthermore, DOT tires are far less succeptable to temperature/pressure changes than DOT-R tires. Most of the real problem (which nitrogen use is one easy way of solving) comes with very high temperatures, such as track use with DOT-R tires. Ask any Ferrari owner that tracks. Lots of them have shredded their $1800+ per set Pirelli P-Zero Corsa System DOT-R tires on 1 track day thanks to temperatures causing the moisture in their tires to heat up and cause the pressure to rise up past 36 psi. With normal DOT tires and their harder rubber compounds, they can withstand higher pressures before their tread starts chunking.

Additionally, nitrogen molecules are larger than typical air, so you don't need to fill your tires with air nearly as often!

The rate of migration through rubber is slower for nitrogen, but the difference is very small. Multiple tests have shown this. Heck, even Consumer Reports did a test. In 1 full year, nitrogen showed only a 1.3 psi reduction less than normal air.

Good call Noble. I trust the test from Consumer Reports. Don't waste your money on nitrogen, save it for other mod. Unless you plan to track your 5er.

This sounds like voo-doo to me.

You normally top off the fill in your tires with a gas that is already only 22% non-nitrogen so what do you gain?

Are we supposed to purge the tires of all that nasty air that already has 78% nitrogen.

Might be an advantge on the track or on AirForce One, but I find it hard to beleive I could tell any difference.

And the reason why some people feel they get better gas mileage with nitrogen is because your tires are properly inflated. But you gte the same result with regular air if you keep track of pressure all the time.
