Here is what Mike Miller, technical editor of Roundel magazine, says about nitrogen: "Zero benefit unless the car is a museum exhibit or a military combat vehicle. Nitrogen tire inflation is the biggest bunch of marketing BS since expiration dates on bottled water..."

i found only 2lbs difference at the front,
saves dirtying your hands every week at the air pump or worrying abt the air pressure when
you've driven 10days and the ride feels "low".

oh hell, everybody just get it.. besides it sounds so much cooler saying you have "nitrogen" filled tires..

I just thought I would add his comments. Many people in the BMW community value his technical expertise and knowledge. He writes the technical Q & A columns for Bimmer and Roundel magazines.

The "air is already mostly nitrogen" has always been the biggest logical mis-step in the nitrogen/air debate. It's not the amount of nitrogen that's the benefit, it's the lack of moisture. Always has been, always will be.
Yes, to get the full benefit, you need to either have wheels with a purge valve (2 stems), or do a few purge/fill cycles.
Again, if you're not doing any performance driving or do not have performance tires, it's probably not a worthwhile hassle if you don't have a Costco near you to do it for free.
