Was at my dealership today, which is a also a Dinan Authorized Dealer, and talked to my service advisor about adding this software to my new 535i which is being delivered in a couple of weeks. He highly recommended the software and said that the dealership would stand behind the full BMW maintenance and warranty if they install the software.

My 535i will be a six speed manual, and this software would take the horsepower from 300 to 384 and the tourque to 421 ft/lbs. (actually, according to folks at the dealership the actual horsepower of the I6TT is more like 330 but was listed as 300 for marketing purposes so it wouldn't encroach on sales the E46 M3 and E60 550i). So, this software would most likely be an effective uplift of 50+ horses.

Does anyone here have any experience with this Dinan upgrade? It sounds like a great deal for $1999.

I thought all engine warranty's are voided if you install the dinan software? Wow, if they are going to still honor it after the mod, and you have the extra paper around for it...why not?

That was my concern as well. But according to my service advisor, the dealership is an authorized dealer and will honor both warranties. Either way, they are on the hook.

Here's member Pennetta's thoughts:

"Got the car back about an hour ago. First the Active steering problem I was having was terminal, they replaced a bunch of things. This delayed getting my car back sooner as well. The steering was never right from the start and now feels like my previous 545is, which is good.
The sensation of the stock 535 is deceptively fast. Not a lot of noise, power is never peaky and it just pulls in a linear fashion from all engine speeds. There are roads where I was able to floor my previous 545 in a S-turn where the same amount of throttle breaks lose the rear tires in the stock 535i.
Now about Dinan- I would advise not to get this upgrade unless you are seriously into increased performance, because it transforms the car into a more single purpose vehicle(more sport car, less 4dr sedan). The increased power is felt immediately at low revs and the difference is huge, the acceleration as the revs build is ferocious. The car is much more responsive and feels a little darty because of the power.
I can now hear the quiet spool of the turbos, which I love, but some may not like. The engine note is stronger and am assuming that the reprogram keeps the inner rear exhaust pipe open, where before it only opened during high load conditions, but I could not confirm this on the Dinan website.
The engine is very smooth and operates glitch-free, just like when stock. It was $1900, out the door, and well worth the money.
I will play more tomorrow on the way to work, looking forward to breaking the 155mph barrier now that the speed limiter is programmed away. I will post impressions as I get them."

It's not the dealerships decision. Sure having a dealership that will stand behind your mods is cool. However if you blow a engine or turbo and BMWNA learns you had the mod it will not honor the warranty. Remember your dealerships gets paid for warranty work from BMWNA. I doubt they would replace a major component at their cost. This is where the Dinan warranty kicks in. But be sure that you have no other mods on the car that are not Dinan, cause if you did kiss that Dinan warranty goodbye as well.

Understood, and that's pretty much how it was explained to me. I'm not a big mod guy, so I wouldn't have any problem preserving the Dinan warranty. In fact, I've never thought about or considered any mods before but the 380 hp and 421 torque made my mouth water.

my 535i is at the dealership right now after the Dinan installation. I absolutely love the upgrade. The only issue is that there was something wrong with the waste gate or the turbo from the factory. increasing 8 lbs of boost to nearly 14 lbs just triggered the problem. Dinan is the only way to go, they did all the work to get me the service I needed to get my car repaired. I am glad that I did not go cheap and get the other products that are available on the market. If I went with another company, I can assure you that the warranty would be voided and the repairs would come out of pocket. "Not cheap!" TRUST ME
