BMW should have a warning sticker 525 specific: if u drive this car, and u are under 40 u will crave more power. Please go home, save more $, and see M5.

M5 sticker: Haha gotcha beeoootttccchhh!!

It is my understanding the 525 and 530 are the same engine.

Change the cam, throttle body, exhaust, and get the ECU remapped to accomodate the new parts.

My advice is to sell the 525i and get something else. Trust me, i feel like I dumped a ton of money on my 525i and I still dont feel satisfied.

It all depends on what the OP's goal is. If the OP wants to go a little but faster, then some bolt on mods are fine. But if the OP wants to go fast, that will never happen in a 525 with bolt on mods. To me, the least expensive, fast E60 is a 535.

IMO - The 525i w/6 speed MT is a bit quicker than the automatic Trans.

So does anyone know if it's possible to bring a 525 to 530 specs? I had a shop tell me that with 530 intake manifold, ECU flash and exhaust they can do it. I know it would be easier to just buy a 530 but would like to know if this is true?

I'm almost positive the 525 and 530 are the same engine except the 525 was tuned down with ECU and parts to provide for a more fuel efficient 5 series. Change out the parts that are different and have the ECU programmed and you'll be set. IMO, the parts needed to be changed are the exhaust, throttle body, and cam. Then, have the ECU programmed to accomodate for those new parts. Changing out the intake manifold would help in this cause. Maybe the cam doesn't need to be changed out???
