after reading all the threads and seeing all the pictures, I decided that I wanted the M5-style fender grills. reading the DIY's, it didn't seem that hard: cut the fender, do a little trimming and VOILA!

well, it took about 6 hours but it's fianlly done! The fender cutting part was the easiest. there are actually braces inside (2 big ones) that has to be cut out. My buddy did it for me, but boy, was it ever a PITA. trying to get at those metal pieces through the cut out is hard. took about 2-3 hours to cut them down flush so they don't get in the way.

once everything was cut, it took another hour or two going at the cut-out with a metal file to make sure everything fits nice and snug...

probably should have just paid someone to do it.. lol...

here are the pix:

the braces sticks out quite a bit.. trimming them down was the hardest part of the job...

all flush and sealed with primer.

all done! now i just have to get my M5 body kit and exhaust!

That took some serious balls to do that. It came out great...

Nice work, but PLEASE do not put the M5 badges on the gills.

What's the function of these grilles? Do they exhaust heat from the engine compartment?

same function as 20" rims, lowering cars, painted calipers, LED light swaps, LED angel eyes, M steering wheels, M shifters, M5 bumpers...etc... it looks good (to the people that change them) purely cosmetic.

Damn... I love it.

Where are you located in Socal? Would you and your buddy considering offering this as a service?

I was debating doing this, but I can't even cut a piece of paper straight with scissors, so forgettaboutit!
Looks really nice though, post some details on a DIY incase I do finally grow a bigger set and decide to go for it.

Good job! This is another mod i've looked into but i've read about the issue of cutting behind the fender! You have to remove the fender right? What tool was used to cut the shape of the grill into fender?
