My Ride: 2005 545i (SMG) Titanium Gray Black Interior, Anthracite Trim M-tech kit Sport Package Premium Sound Satellite Radio Active Cruise Comfort Seats Navigation Folding rear seats

Got part from RoverActive.

I never had part # for the US plate version.... but once I saw a pic of the USA version, I hated the look so much that I didn't bother trying to find a part #.

By the way.... the finisher adds some weight to the trunklid, so it opens more slowly. It's also easier to close the trunklid.

Just don't lock your keys in the trunk!
I don't see why this would be any different. If you lock your keys in the trunk, what good does a keyhole do you anyway?

I had noticed the absence of the keyhole as well. Also, does this design strike anyone else as a step backwards in time? This flat trunk design is reminiscent of E39 and E46 trunklids. Perhaps in the deepest subconscious recesses we all secretly wish our cars were less avant-garde?

The outer trunk lock is meant to manually lock the trunk - preventing a valet who only has the valet key from opening it.

Lastly, this is a "double sided tape" operation? I'm not uber thrilled by the idea. Do we know if the "factory" cars that come with this revised trunk piece use a different trunklid entirely or if they too will be augmented by this part that has been attached with adhesive?

So whats the part number for the euro version? What exactly did you need to cut off your license plate to make it fit? I'm torn between the two. But I'm leaning toward the euro version. The perfect fit around the license plate in the US version feels a bit weird. The space around the euro version seems to be a perfect transition between trunk and plate.

The trunks are all the same and the M5s have this piece stuck on too. Dont worry about the glue...even the M5 rear spoiler is held on using the stuff! Just don't wash the rear end of the car for a day or two...

I am really not sure what to say. I guess it you like it, then it's worth it.
I don't think it would make that much difference if you had a black car like mine.
I am still debating whether or not to get M-body kit because I've seen a black one with it, but its so subtle that without a closer look, I couldn't tell it had the body kit.

It's double sided tape, and two screws that hold it in place.

The tape is pretty strong.... and it's the same tape for the spoiler.

I just prefer the look. It makes the lines cleaner without the keyhole, and the valet key is useless and I would never use it, so I don't need to worry about locking my trunk manually.
