I fitted the OEM M5 mirrors to my previous E61 myself (plug & play), but had them fitted to my current E60 by BMW -- basically I was too lazy! So I am very impressed with the effort you put in... it looks great, definitely worth the effort ![Thumbsup](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/thumbsup.gif)
As for the comment about your wife not noticing, I was totally shocked by mine, because one of the first things my wife said to me when we bought the 550i was "you've got to replace the mirrors" !

How difficult is it to remove the door panel? I looked around but didn't see a DIY.
Your mirrors look great! This is a project I want to do in the not too distant future.

My advice, get someone to help you, because there are wires connected between the door handle area to the panel, so if for whatever reason the whole door panel comes loose, you have the risk of ripping wires out -- yes, I learnt the hard way and had to repair one

I used the relevant steps from this DIY that was put together by member Rsyed. (The DIY also shows you how to swap out motors.)
