I just picked up an 06 550i with the sport package. I've got a deal on a set of E60 M5 wheels with tires. I know that I'll have to downsize the tires, but I've also read that to get that "hunkered-down" look I'll need to add spacers behind the M5 wheels. My question is, if I add the spacers I will not have as much of the lug bolt threads holding the wheel on to the hub, should I opt for longer lug bolts?

I am not 100%, but when you buy a H&R wheel spacer kit you also get the longer bolts, I am sure some others will chime in. Yes however you will need longer bolts, as I am pretty sure the prefered size for M5 wheels is 12mm spacers on the rear.

GL, looking forward to seein some pics with your new 166's

I would suggest getting the spacers from Rogue Engineering and they can supply longer lug nut bolts - its what I did.

thats right for the 166 M5 offsets, its ET 28 in the rear and 12mm spacer will bring it to ET16 flushed with the rear fenders

Doesn't that cause them to catch with weight in though? Just curious?

Just got my 12mm spacer black bolts from Turner Motorsport. I prefer the black, but they have them in silver as well.

I'm new to the BMW thing, can you tell me what the ET 28 and ET16 are referring to?

I have a 12mm spacers in the rear. I use Rogue engineering spacers and they come with longer lugs.

It's the wheel offset from the centre line of the wheel - i.e. the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel (onto the vehicle hub) to the outside edge of the wheel. See the following HERE for more information - scroll down the page a little to the section entittled "Inset or outset".
