You won't have any issues running 285 or 295 tires but make sure the wheel width is 10 or above and your offset is proper.
A 285 comes stock on the M5's, so bumping it up one size (width-wise) to a 295 shouldn't cause any issues, should it?

285 is already on the outer edge of what a 9.5" wide wheel should be mounted with. In general, given a specific tire width (ie. 285mm), the wider a rim you use within the designed specs, the better the vehicle will handle (there's less sidewall wiggle, so the tread is working on a more solid platform). The 285mm tire is typically designed for a 9.5" to 11" wide wheel (though some, like the Continental ContiSportContact 2 can be used with as narrow as 9"). The 295mm tire is designed for 10-11".

So then with a 19 x 9.5 rear & 12mm spacers , is it safe to say that the highest you can go with is a 285... ?!!

also do the fronts need spacers for the 166's?

cool thanks, it confused me when someone mentioned that you had to buy 20 longer bolts! but if the fronts sit flush then you would only need 10 bolts from turners because you can use your stock bolts on the fronts!

The guy didn't like the look of the turner bolts in the rear because they didn't match his front OEM bolts. So I told him to buy 20 (10 longer, and 10 regular size) so he could replace the OEM bolts as well and then they would all look the same

can someone answer this, the wheels shop where I am buying the tires from only has 12.5mm spacers. Will that work?

Be careful what brand of spacers you use. General consensus around here seems to be H&R or Rogue (I am running 12mm H&R) As for will 12.5mm work, dunno. My fitment is really tight w/my 12mm. I'm sure it would fit, but I'd be safe and buy myself some 12mm H&R's and hand them to the tire guy to put on...

Just my .02

12.5mm is close enough to 12mm, thickness wise.

Make sure they're hubcentric, have a center bore of 72.5mm, and a 5 x 120mm bolt pattern.

Make sure you're getting the right length extended wheel bolts too. The stock ones are 25mm long, tapered (cone shape, not ball), 17mm head, 12mm x 1.5 pitch, black.

Here are the extended bolts I bought in case you need...I'm sure there are others out there, but this was the route I went.
