Merdashti has just got BMW to install a new LCM in his pre-LCI car, dont know what part number he used. I've been helping him with a cable set but his car is apparently different in that it wont strobe the turn lights. However you still need a cable converting the 6 pins to the 8 pin plug plus a new LCM and coding, unless the retrofit involves some wire harness changes too.

Bruce,

You have provided me with the super technical support - I thank you for that.

I have been experimenting with my car and specifically with the LCM or as BMW now calls it Light Module LM. I had BMW hook up my car to their computers that are usually used for diagnosis and software upgrade. I then had them try to recode my LCM with the LCI software which did nothing really to my lights. I then had them order me a new Light Module part # 61359137776, install and recode - which also partially resolved the problem but made my brake lights strobe. I then ordered another LM which was an upgraded version of the LM that was replaced.

This Light Module - part # 61 35 9 154 944 was installed on my car and recoded with the LCI settings. It gave me all sorts of light errors on the Idrive and this was due to the resistor on Bruce's cable. Bruce sent me an OEM cable without the resistors to test on the car - we had to swap cables around on both connectors for it to give me the LCI look and effects.

It works fine - gives me full effects but I do get 2 Idrive errors which really do not bother me at all. I am unsure if the LM unit on the US spec car is the same as EU spec car.

Speak to Garry Romani at BMW Newport - gromani@bmwofnewport.com he maybe able to help and will give you a great discount on the LM. The LM will cost you about $350 - $400.

Bruce on to the next project?? Front lights

do the BMW oem retrofits usually come with cables?

Yes - BMW usually will package everything together along with everything that is required for the retrofit. I actually have heard from BMW that they are definately coming out with a pre lci retrofit package that should include all lights, cables, light module, front and rear bumpers. This is supposedly going to be available by FEB 2008.

The kit should be similar to the one that came out for the 7 series after it was facfelifted. It even included the front fenders.

The retrofit kit's price should be much cheaper than buying the parts individually.

Bruce, no doubt that your cable kit is the cheapest possible way to have LCI taillights on pre-LCI cars. No need for new lights module/wiring/encoding/labour etc, no care about any future CIP updates, just because with your kit, our stock lights module handles our LCI tails as standard (pre-LCI) tails.
Now that you are about to resolve and the strobeing issue, this is clearly the most advantageous way for us to get the authentic LCI taillights look.

and Congrats on your upcoming baby!!

Does anyone know the part numbers for the LCI tail lights? I was wondering if Garry from BMWofNewport can offer them with the 25% discount.

I don't think they are, because the Euro version blink Amber, whereas the US versions blink Red.
