Hi all
Thinking about getting the ipod adapter fitted at the BMW dealer - Can I ask what functionality will this show on the idrive (ie) will I be able to do most of the functions that I can do on the Ipod alone?
Cheers

On older cars, it replaces the 6-disc changer in the glove box. In place of CD1, CD2 etc, you see CD1*, CD2* on the iDrive. These respresent Playlists, Artists, Albums etc. Can't recall the exact order but I had it on my old 545 and liked it. It works pretty much like the iPod, where you can select playlist or artist and then select Random, which is the BMW version of Shuffle...
There are some limitations in terms of number of songs or playlists it can handle but it is significantly more music than you can get out of 6 CD's. Also do a search here as others have used third-party products like the Denison Gateway and have been very pleased. Can't speak to the functionality of iDrive but I think they work with it as well

I have GW500 for almost a month now and I'm loving it. Much better product than BMW ipod adapter, you also get USB interface and AUX port.

GW500 has been installed by my mechanic in the glove box. I promised to post some pictures in this thread for some time now
. Hopefully I will be able to do it by next Saturday.

who did the GW500 install for you?
where does it go?
where does it go?
I installed the Dension GW 500 on my 2005 545i. It's much better than the BMW adapter. I purchased it from Joe, Fantastic 5 on the forum. He was very attentive and I would definitely buy from him again. Check my threads for install info. It's about the size of 2 packs of ciagarettes laid flat side by side. There is room to put it next to the fuse box. It's a pretty straight forward install. Eme if you have any q's!!
will

Cheers guys - its seems as if the BMW fitted adapter does have quite a few restrictions then. I wouldnt mind going the GW 500 route but I need to do a bit of research on where to get it , and more importantly where to get it fitted
