Here's the response I got from BMW USA customer relations: :'(

Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding your 2005 BMW 545i. We hope your new BMW is serving you well. At this time, we have not been provided with any information to advise us when, or even if, an iPod adapter will be developed for the 5 Series. The electronics system used in this vehicle does not allow for simple connections to be installed in the vehicle. Should an iPod adapter be developed for this vehicle, the parts department at your authorized BMW center will be the first to be notified.

I hate BMW NA. How could they be so ignorant of their own vehicles as to not know that the aux input exists? What's wrong with these guys? It is a VERY EASY install for any dealer with any common sense.
