I killed the darn seat belt alert

I've had enough!!! :bashwall:
That seat belt alert, and particularly the annoying chime, was driving me crazy.
I'm wearing my belt 95% of the time, but I don't need some dimwit in Munich or Woodcliff Lake to run my life for the times I don't!
To you, sanctimonious few who are ready to lecture this 51-year old on the merits of wearing the belt at all times, please, stop emulating your dads and move on to www.afa.net.

I tried not wearing the seatbelt, just to see what happens.
1) Red light in dash as soon as you start the car
2) Drive off - nothing happens
3) About 10 seconds later you get the chimes, which go on longer that I wanted to know about.
Do US spec cars chime immediately?

yvesj: You are very resourceful, interesting stuff - thanks for posting. To our friends without the Lawyer Warning Screen - LWS, don't worry. It becomes automatic to tap the idrive after starting. I don't get the BMW screen, never seen it. Mine goes right to the LWS, in a second, and I tap the idrive w/o even looking - right before I hit the PDC button - that's OK to turn off - right?

You are very likely to have your car keyed by a pregnant 21 year old mother of three on benefit.

I think the accept screen should be built into the i-drive. It should be not allowed to be used while the car is moving unless the driver sets the i-drive to allow it while the car is stopped. After the driver allows it, it remebers the accept and doesn't need to ask again. It could be key dependent. That way each driver agree's. Just a thought.

Good Job
I tried this on My Jaguar and it would not go away they built in a speed sensor to trigger it too.
I then cut the seatbelt ends of loaner cars and had dummy clips, very annoying having them fall in between the seats,
Nice tech tip, IF this chime annoys me Ill do it on Thursday.
