From a site I found:

"If your speedometer has been calibrated for 245/40 R 18 (26 x 9.65 x 18) tires, replacing them with 255/35 R 19's (27 x 10.04 x 19's) would result in the speedometer reading low by 1.19%."

"If your speedometer has been calibrated for 275/35 R 18 (26 x 10.83 x 18) tires, replacing them with 285/30 R 19's (27 x 11.22 x 19's) would result in the speedometer reading low by 0.60%."

Doesn't seem like anything to really worry about. You'll be going about 1 mph faster than the speedo says. BMW is known to show a faster speed, ie. when the speedo says 80 you're really going like 75 so this closes that gap slightly.

I remember reading here on the forum that the M5 rims don't fit the regular E60? I don't see why they would not. It'll be a little tight in the front. Remember I put in 10mm spacers there and it got tight so increasing the tire width by those 10mm will cause the same issue. Perhaps we can even go fatter in the rear, perhaps 295?

Like I said I'm personally going to wait until my tires wear out. I think when you put the 19" M5 rims on you're going to have to lower the car also to make up for the increased height otherwise it might look awkward. That's going to be another expensive mod.

I think BMW speedos indicate a faster than actual reading by about 7 or 8%, so changing the tires diameters to the ones in your example (which happen to be the same ones that I calculated to be a closer match to the OEM's) would make a minimal change. But if I understand it correctly from your example the larger the diameter is the lower the speedo will read. That would mean while the sizes that I listed may be OK, the M5 sizes would make a much bigger change in the speedo reading.

what about the acceleration and gas milage.....anyone know how increasing the tire diameter will affect those?

That's good to know....knowing that your 10mm spacers are not causing a problem will make it easier for me to try to calculate what the outcome would be. I would like to go with the 295's in the rear if possible.

Not necessarily. If you go with the sizes I listed the overall diameter of the front will increase by 0.314" and the rear by 0.151". This means the height of the car will increase by half of those numbers (0.157" front and 0.0755" rear), barely noticable. If you do go with the M5 tire sizes then the overall diameters will increase by 1.314" front and 1.275" rear. The height would increase by 0.657" at the front and 0.6375 at the rear. This would be more noticable, but it would also fill out the wheel wells better.
