wouldn't it have been easier just taking the calipers off and cleaning it with some solvent or something instead of masking everything around it and sanding it??

I really didn't want to mess with any of the electronics in the car, that's why I didn't bother.

imo no. taking off the calipers means bleeding the brake system. i didnt want to deal with all that bs. a quick sand and a quick clean did the trick for me. Leaving the calipers on is a lot easier!

Yeah i ended up doing this yesterday. Turned out good. But was a pain in the ass. I ended up sanding and scrubbin it clean with a wire brush

Looks nice. Good prep work. I did the same thing a week or so ago. I went with low gloss, though, to go along with the matte black theme I've been putting together the past couple of months.

I would buy spray paint made for plastic. The caliper paint will probably work but it's made for metal so I don't know how well it would work with plastic...

I'll probably wait until I am changing the brake fluid to do mine for that very reason. I think that you can get the parts a lot cleaner off of the car. I have access to a sand blaster at work, too, so I can tape off the rubber parts and really get them clean and prepped for the paint.
