your car will be black
therefore
-101 are difficult to clean, look good indeed but on silver cars like znod's
-166 are very common and will also show that you are trying to copy the m5 but very nice looking wheels
-172 look best on black cars and will not see many around there too that would be my choise
i would also consider 167 as SergeyM said if i wanted a more sporty look
all that is just My opinion didnt mean to offend anyone who has one of those wheels
thanx to a member of the forum i borrowed those
take a look at them and think about it

I love the look of the 172s - and they would be very rare to see here in the States.
One issue I have with them is they are not a staggered set like your stock 124s will be.
And the 550 needs lots of meat on the road from the back wheels - especially for summer fun.
So I went with the M5 wheels.
By the way, what are you going to do with the 124s? I put snow tires on them and that worked out well for me.
Here's my review of my new wheels and tires.

I am very happy with my 166 wheels except for the finish on them. It has a different sheen than other wheels I've had and is difficult to clean. I've also heard from the gentleman that has repaired my rims in the past that he has difficulty with the finish on the 166 even though he has the exact paint. It is eveidently hard to blend when repairing a defect. And with my wife driving the car part time I know this will happen.
Having said all this I would buy them again. Great looking wheel for the money, and when you put good tires on you are in for a whole new e60 experience.

hi,
i would recommend to take the original m5 166 style wheels, you can't go wrong they look great.
it took me quite some time not to go for the m6 style, they look awesome too but somehow to light on the e60 imho.
having no speed limit i would not count on heavy and chinese built oem crap wheels but that might be different if you can't drive as fast as you want. my chipped 535d runs like real 265-270 km/h i wouldn't wanna rely on cheap wheels though rifing fullspeed
just my 2 cents

If my Monaco Blue with Aero Kit would look this good with 166's, what else is there to say? This is just a beautiful car.
Tachyon, you went with bridgestones but sounds like I can't go wrong with Pilots; what size tires are best for 166's if I want what you couldn't get with bridgestone's? Also is Tirerack best best for ordering them at good price?
