what size tires are best for 166's?
I like the set-up Lomag put on a few weeks ago ... M5 wheels with Michelin PS2s 245/35 fronts and 285/30 rear. These tires are expensive, especially for the rears, but I think it's worth the investment to make the whole set-up look just perfect. Plus, the PS2s are about the lightest tire for these sizes that you can find.

It's finally sunny here in Chicgao today and the new M5 wheels look so fantastic in the sun.

Good luck and let us know which way you go.

Wow, I just checked out those tire prices at tirerack.com - extremely expensive I see.

I'm looking at 3 19" OEM rims, this includes the M style 166, 101, and 172. Yes I like the sport rims that come with car but want summer tires as well.

Each has pro's and con's and I'd like to hear what you think.

166 - By far best looking on any e60, and are the least expensive of the 3 ($1600). I worry that I will see too many of them via M5's and because I have the M Aero Kit, I am hesitate to have a copy cat car (no flames, I know I know - but it is sort of true). That is my only hesitation.

101 - Very beautiful and elegant rims, most expensive, about $2000. Look like a real pain to keep clean and sort of make me think about rims that were on the e39 if you know what I mean. I keep coming back to them on looks alone.

172 - Really sharp and extremely different, I won't see any of them around here, and I love the angles they create - but again, look difficult to clean. About $1800 I believe. Need to be ordered from Germany and 3 weeks out.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks to the 3 members I stole these pics from, love all your rides!
Thanks for stealing my car/wheels--the 101's. The 101's are not too hard to keep clean. The best way is to spend 5 to 10 minutes on them every day or so. That way they are not too difficult on wash days. I washed my car today because I actually got rained on. I sacrificed the 545i for the black Z06--which is a huge pain to wash, etc. Anyway, I had become way behind on keeping my 101's clean and, yes, they took some time to get clean. The best way to clean them if behind is to sit on the ground and get to know them very well again by slowly caressing each of their curves, nooks, and crannies.

hi,

just to participate which tyre might be worth buying. the ones mounted are hankook 19" front 245/35 r. 275/30 y. cost 600EUR allogether, non runflats.

i had continental 18" runflats and hated them beeing that uncomfortable and noisy, they costed 3x.

Tachyon,

That is one spectacular picture! How do you like the PS2's? I am very happy with mine.

without doubt the 166 are the most beautiful rims for the e60, but it is too associated with the M5.
I will go for the 172 for it being a bit more unique.
in real life the angular 'joints' looks very pleasing and finishes the car well, it also have the M/// logo which is a plus for cosmetic reasons.

if you cannot decide on either and they are all nice, i will go with my collegeman's rule.
'the cheaper one of the lot'.

good advice. i see few M5's in this area so 166 may work.
