I don't know how many times I've said this, always uninstall and clear codes before taking car in for service.

The only thing I know is that although his shop has been around for years, he used to be a lead BMW mechanic in one of the local dealerships. Maybe they never took away his access? I don't know. You would think that would be unlikely.
