Help needed...

I got the Aegis drive and it fits beautifully. I'm having a hard time getting the music organized properly, however. When I put the music on the drive and connect to the E60, I-drive only allows songs to be played from "directory" - that is to say I can't click on Genre, Artist, etc. and play sorted music. Any ideas? I've tried loading music on a number of ways but I still can't get it. I'm using Mediamonkey (like i-tunes) and all of my ID3 tags are correct on the MP3's. Do I need to load a "playlist" of the entire collection?

Thanks in advance!

Depending on how much data (or music) is on the drive, it can take quite some time for the car to index everything. How many megabytes (or gigabytes) worth of music do you have on the drive? Do you have any other files (non music) on the drive?

There's about 20 GB or 5000 tracks. Do you know if the system is indexing by ID3 tag? When I loaded all of them in the root directory the system would crash, timeout, etc. Once I loaded everything into ~1000 directories or so, Things get indexed after about 5-10 minutes, but only in the directory structure on the drive. How are you getting music on the drive so I-drive can build a cross-reference for all of the other queries, e.g. genre, artist, etc.?

In my experiences, the directory structure of the drive is available pretty much instantly. It's only after some time has elapsed (more than 5 or 10 minutes if there are a lot of songs) that you'll see the genre, artist, and playlists available...

Although I agree that there are many options available -- large flash drives, regular drives with boosted power, iPods, or low power drives, there's something to be said for elegance. To me, not having adaptors or bulky wires running everywhere means a lot. For the last year, I had a decent setup with a drive that usually worked. The wire I had was only about 8 inches long, etc.

Now, with my new setup, I seem to have 100% reliability, no heat issues, and the fit couldn't be better...

Hi Rudy,

Did you lost the phone cradle?

I was thinking about use the Scandisk 500GB compact external HD. Did you already test it?

Thanks,

Alex

Wow. Top drawer info, Rudy. Thanks. Just curious as to what types of data do you put onto the hard drive, besides mp3s, that you can use in the e60? Thanks again.
If you got the ACM you could play videos and pics too.

I still have the upper compartment (where the phone cradle would be) in the console. I'm not familiar with the drive you mentioned -- do you really need that much space for music files? If you have a link to the product, post one...

Hi Rudy,

So you could storage the HD and keep the phone cradle, that is a good idea. I will think about that!

I misunderstood the HD brand. It is WD not SD (ScanDisk).

Here is the link:

The space is for music, pics and video for the kids...

As far as space is concerned, not only can I keep the phone cradle but even with the drive at the bottom, I still have a ton of room in the lower console.

I'm going to guess that the WD drive you linked to won't work with the low power output of the 6FL iPod/USB interface. I don't know enough about the ACM interface to know if it provides a higher output but I'm pretty sure others here know...
