Thanks for the info ! I've wondered whether the service engineers would spot the difference in performance as they drive the car and then bother to act on it ?

Well, it's perfectly possible for e-maps (or anyone else) to use the same equipment and software as DMS. What they mean is that they use the same equipment and software to read and re-map the car's ECU, not that the remapping parameters are the same. BMW is obliged to supply to anyone who pays the list price all their diagnostic and programming equipment - one thing for which we have to thank the EU.
