H&R Springs for XI

Now that you see those springs imagine how the bumpstops can fit w/o trimming well, they will but the car will be ridin' on it ...
BTW ... the larger diameter springs go to the front, and the smaller diameter go to the rear so to answer to your question the 2 shorter springs go to the front.

I know for a fact I was the first order of these springs and install, as I spent months talking to Kevin Foote from TMS. I was the one who was hounding Steve at H&R Corporate for almost a year to put these Springs into R&D. Trust me, the second I got these delivered, they went straight on the car.

Took a pic of the springs after unpackaging them. They are in excellent condition, there is no sign of coil bind on them. The person who I bought them from did not cut the jounce bumpers and I don't think I will either. I would rather just go back to factory if I think the ride is that bad but i've driven many H&R VW's and think I will be able to tolerate the ride.

I measured them and the fronts are 21cm (8.27") and the rears are 33cm (13"). The rear spring are designed with the dead coils at the bottom so that when your car is jacked up the springs aren't loose. These coils are designed to be at full compression at load.

Talked to H&R yet again and they still insist on leaving the bumpers alone. By cutting the bumper you change the rate of the spring since the jounce bumper is a progressive helper spring which is supposed to be used in conjunction with the coil spring.

Ahhh I didn't know that H&R designed these springs to make the car riddin' on the bumpstops ...
I wonder if BMW designed their bumpstops to be ridden?

I can always cut them if I have to but I might as well try first and hopefully I will be ok like other members. If not then I need to decide whether I trim or sell.

All of the xi's are the same....same original strut travel, same stops, and the same drop with the H&R's. Like Blastiwi and I keep saying, you can't lower the car over and inch without cutting them, when there's only a half inch of travel to begin with. It is pretty simple math.

I have a feeling you are going to do what you want regardless of all the testimony, and you are right...you can always cut them later. Good luck. Let me know how your first expansion joint feels at 75mph.

99% of my driving is urban, my average speed is under 20 mph. We'll see how it goes.
