They will fit, but IMHO I still think they'll be too long, esp in front.

 

so dont cut the bumpstop and dont use shorter bumpstop from sport package due to non sport shock, but without cutting bumpstop or replace with shorter bumpstop, then i will ride on bumpstop

therefore, from my understanding, i should either go with srping + shock, or coilover, never do spring only correct?

 

I never rode on my bumpstops and I was the first XI owner to have these on my E60 XI. However, because the compression and rebound rates are not an ideal match for the stock shocks, you probably don't want to go this route, especially since KW now has a set of CO's for the E60 XI. It's a bit more costly, but worth every penny.

 

I on the other hand probably the last person in the 1st group that lower their XI and still using it and have zero problem, yes the KW v3 is the way to go, for at least 10x as much it'll worth every penny. Right now I'm enjoyin' my bad ass AWD ...

 

I never had a single problem with the suspension. It was just that you could feel that the springs were not designed around the OEM shocks. You could feel it when you drove.

No, I know I definitely didn't. If I were on the bumpstops most of the time, I would have been bottoming out all the time. I would have felt it, especially with a lot of the roads in my town. I just didn't like how the car became "bouncy" at times, under very aggressive driving conditions. When you drive extremely fast and hard around turns, you need to make sure your car is on the road and absorbing the bumps. Because the rebound rates were off, I wasn't certain 100% of the time that all 4 tires/wheels were on the ground, especially if I was going over uneven pavement. That was a bit unsettling.

I would have known about the bumpstops though, as I probably would have felt a bottoming out feeling quite often. Fortunately, I didn't. That's why I always felt something was different about your car. I didn't have that problem. If you drove my car like a normal person would, then the car was fine. I guess I'm not normal.

 

I never felt my car bottom out either....I had NO clue about the stops until the car was examined by my mechanic. Had I not had vibration problems, I would have never known or probably checked. It was a serendipitous discovery which then led to the realization of why my ride was so stiff and bouncy, like yours was.

Oh well, who cares at this point? I think we can come to the conclusion that if you are going to lower an xi that coilovers are the ONLY way to go if you want to do it right.

Hey C I think I had mine on first but that is neither here nor there. I did cut the bumpstops on mine. And I did my own install too. I have been wrenching on cars for as long as I could hold a wrench. I could not imagine lowing that car with stock struts and not cutting those bumpstops. There would be no suspenstion travel if you didnt.

 

Just got my springs, too bad my mechanic is gone for the month on holidays! I can't believe how short 2 of the springs are, would those be for the rear?
