I know of another cheap mod. Get one of those air duster cans ($7 for 16 oz) and retrofit into the intake. Run a pulley string from the trigger to the inside of the car. When you need a burst of "cold air," pull the string. Man, cold air PLUS blown air! That's CAI and SC all in one!

I need to go patent it now.
Love it!!

I just did this on my 550, There were no clips, I just pryed it out, it seemed to kind of break of nice and clean. I hope its ok removing this filter, being that the frame said DO NOT REMOVE. I drove it for 5 mins, Im pretty sure I feel some kind of difference, and I am sure I can HEAR a difference. THANKS

hmm I guess my little 2.5L engine did not require one. Mine does not have a charcoal filter.

Wow, it looks I now have something to do tommorrow moring!!

This is something everyone in the U.S. should definitly do if it makes the cars responsiveness better like everyone says.

Perhaps I should make this thread sticky, it just seems that good. I'll see!

Okay so I just had the Dinan CAI installed yesterday. I'm curious if 1)Dinan removed this charcoal filter when they installed their new box or 2) if it's still there, can I remove it and perhaps get additional power gain?? Hmmmm....

I guess I can open up the Dinan CAI assembly and find out but just curious if anyone would know.

OK, I'll be a libral for a second and say, "You're harming the environment with those loose hydrocarbons." OK, I'm done being a liberal.

Lomag, I second making this a sticky, but can we get a someone to dyno it and see the actual gains instead of the "feel." Or maybe we can setup a placebo and find out if dyno is not available.

Another option is have one of the guys with the GT2 Meters do a before and after run since the GT2 measures horsepower.

I could do it but I feel a little unreliable having promised to do some baseline runs with my car before my Dinan mods but never got around to it. I'll definitely get some runs eventually but I still don't know if this charcoal filter thingamajig still applies to my car with the new Dinan CAI.

Don't know. One way to find out--take the cover off your airbox!

I removed it. Took me 5 minutes. I really don't notice any difference in the performance of the car. I doubt that little filter is impeding air flow in any significant way. heck, my air filter is 3 times as thick. It's not the rate limiting step in air flow IMO.
