I have physically installed a mirror with FLA, including hooking into the RLS wiring. The mirror itself seems good. Autodimming works, the compass works, the alarm LED works. Homelink might work, I have no way of testing it. The only additional feature compared to my old mirror is the FLA.
Having installed it, I tried to do the necessary coding to get it running.
I am very inexperienced at coding.
So, here is what I did:
1. NCS Expert, factory coding profile
2. Edit VO to add the "$5AC" option
3. FA Write to CAS
3. FA Write to LMA
4. sg_codieren to CAS
5. sg_codieren to LMA
So far so good. At this point I now have FLA in my list of ECUs when it wasn't there before.
I tried then to sg_codieren to the FLA ecu. Failure:
In the log is this:[13:15:28.025] [2021-11-27] [SERIE] 2041 Error CDH.C CDHCheckIdent 3
So. I deleted $5AC from the VO/FA, then did fa_write to CAS and LMA again, and sg_codieren to CAS and LMA, and then sg_codieren to CAPPL
No error this time in the sg_codierent to CAPPL
There is something not working once I have FLA added.
I obviously don't really know what I am doing here, but I'd like to understand this better (and also get FLA working!)
Is this some kind of software level mismatch between my NCS Expert and the car, or is it something worse?
My car mostly seems to have fairly old software versions on it (eg I still have to update the transmission software due to a hard 2-1 downshift) and mostly the software versions go back to 2005. But I have no idea whether this is relevant or not.
Can anyone help?

Reason: more sensible image sizes
1: add $5AC to your VO in both CAS + LMA
Use EXPERTMODE profile
Also execute the FA_WRITE job to each of above
2: NCS EXPERT (EXPERT PROFILE - to reset to factory settings)
F1+F3=e60 chassis
F6 back
F4 - ECU: You will need to do for all below
F2 = SG_CODIEREN
F3 = start coding
(repeat for the other ECU's: LMA, CAS, FLA, KOMBI, KGM, CCAPPL)
(be sure to have the lastest software for KOMBI before proceeding with step 2; it will turn on the auto a logo in the instrument cluster. If you don't have latest software, update module with WINKFP)
3: NCS Expert code
CAS: CCC_APPL module
Change: VA_LONGDISTANCELIGHT
from: nicht_aktiv to: aktiv
Transmission update is not need for 2-1 downshift bump. You need to do a service on the transmission (ATF, pan, 4 cylinder sleeves and bridge gasket)

I have two profiles in NCS Expert - "manipulation" and "factory coding".
I did everything described above in "factory coding" since I was not working with MAN files. What do you think?
It seems to me like I did exactly what you've said, except that I got errors when I got to the FLA, and for each ECU after that. Maybe it's just my NCS Expert setup...
As for updating modules with winkfp... I think I will need to do that for a lot of modules. I haven't done this before, am I right that I need to have a serious power supply to maintain the battery while doing this?
Your comment on the transmission is interesting... I gather there is a known problem specific to the 545i (and 645i) and a BMW SIB:
SIB240305 bulletin:
SUBJECT
Harsh 2-1 Downshift
MODEL
E60 (545i); E63/64 645(Ci/Cic) with 6HP26 up to 04/05
SITUATION
Customer may complain of the following:
An excessively harsh 2-1 downshift when decelerating to a stop, or
Transmission "bangs" into gear when accelerating from a full or a "rolling" stop (vehicle did not come to a complete stop).
CAUSE
EGS software.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, reprogram/recode complete vehicle using SSS with CIP on-line update 17.01, or higher.
Not arguing though, as I still don't know these cars very well... maybe a software fix is a kludge for this problem. All my shifts are good but for this slight (but definitely there) two bumps described in the SIB.
I've never seen those profiles before so I don't know how it's configured. I use Revtor's pfl files which can be found on google.
Did you uncheck .man before factory coding? If so you may need to open INPA to see if FLA is listed in the UIF list. This will ensure you installed it correctly. The VO list only means you added the option correctly. Also looks like you're using the wrong daten files
I don't think BMW came out with a SIB that actually worked for the 2-1 shift issue. They only offered a reman trans for the fix. Some 26 transmissions was fixed with the update temporarily (not for the 2-1 downshift, it has only 1 fix) but all E60 transmissions (19, 21 and 26) has the same 2-1 issue unless you're talking SMG and they have there own issues. Look in the DIY section for a detailed transmission issue fix thread.
You need an ICOM and a battery charger to keep it at 14.2v to update modules. For the KOMBI you should be able to update it through the OBD if your battery is healthy. Anything else ensure you have a charger or you risk bricking the module. It takes much longer to flash through OBD and most modules can't take the data transfer through the OBD and will brick the module also from a partial flash error

Thanks as always Sean. I think you are right about the daten files and I suspect that may be my whole problem. I am going to wipe all the BMW tools and do a clean install and hopefully figure out how to update the daten files correctly.
So far I've really just been following how-to info by rote, which I don't really like doing... time to get into it and understand it all properly.
I have installed a different version of NCS Expert which gives me a more specific range of profiles and has the most recent sp_daten.
I have got the VO changed to add $5AC, done FA_WRITE to CAS and LMA, and can see in INPA that the FLA module is visible.
I then switch to expert mode for factory settings and can sg_codieren to CAS, LMA, CAPPL and KOMBI. However I still hit an error when I try to sg_codieren to the FLA module:
I have a FLA mirror from 2011 and my car is a 2005 E60. Wiring is triple-checked and then some; I believe I have the FLA plug wired correctly (tapped into the plug at the RLS).
Following up... I have confirmed the FLA module is present and INPA can talk to it. I am doing some more digging and will update as I go for future reference.
Given it's there and INPA can see it and talk to it, I figure it will be possible to get it working as it must just be software.
At least, it looks like it does, need to go on a highway drive to check it out.
The coding issue was due to the mirror being from a newer vehicle, and being the "gen 2" type (round camera). This was never available on any E60 (but was on E70, E90, E93, etc). It uses the module name FLA_R rather than FLA_65. So, I had to use a "virtual car" SSD file in NCSExpert to code it.
I still have a couple of kinks to iron out but it is looking good. Nice crash course in coding, it all makes much more sense to me now.
