When you switch the module on, you will get the picture from the module on your screen, no more idrive, but idrive is still fully functional in the background. The idrive doesn't know you are not seeing the idrive info on your screen.

Hi Volkmar
I use a Xantech IR receiver that is mounted at the top of the iDrive screen. The signals received by this unit are transmitted back to the Xantech emitter spliiter and connection block at the rear of the car. From this block, there are IR eyes that go to my DVD player, PS2, Lacie and iDrive interface. Therefore I can point any remote control to the iDrive screen and the units respond. Also, now got a Sony remote commander and will program the one remote for all the functions.

That's not possible, until somebody hacks idrive and finds a stable way of doing it.

@Hobi: Thanks for the information. Do you've really wired the IR from the from to the back, and then - via the splitter - back to the front (to the IDrive Interface)?
Do you've pictures from the IR installation?

In my case, yes I did. I wanted to locate the splitter at the rear of the car because all my source input devices are there. I don't have specific pictures of the IR part of the install. I'll have a look to see if there are rear section images that show the location of the splitter etc..

Can you make a picture of the IR Receiver at the iDrive? I only see the 490-30 Receiver from Xantech which is small, but can't imagine how this would look (as it's a receiver for a drilled whole...)
Which Cable did you use? 283M Mouse emitters? Are 10ft long enough from the front to the rear (below the trunk)? Where did you put the cable (door sill)? What kind of cable did you put from front to rear for AV (1 or 2) ?
Sorry for these questions. I'm trying to figure out how much the complete installation whould cost....
