nick it looks better....a custom lci look to it! losing the "plug & play"
maybe is not bad afterall. we get to customize the tailight to our own preference.
about the rear turn signal, the lcm do not do a check control on it.
for the rear it only checks the reverse, brake, & fog lights (i think).

You mean, like US cars, brake lights in the circle, but what about the fogs?? In the center?? ![Think](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/think.gif)

I think LCM only check tail and brake lights for burn out. No other light is checked because its not crucial. Tail lights have their warning via the rapid blink signal.

In the LCI cars the LEDs light rods are lit on their own in normal taillight of DRL mode. However with these cables the LED light rods will be on but will also have a dim backlight of the brake and taillight bulbs, thats the only difference.

What is lit on the LCI cars at night without the brakes being applied? Is it just the LED rods? If not, is it the same as what we will have lit up at night with this cable retrofit?

I have another idea for the complete LCI look, but you would lose BFD. How about disconnecting the Brake and tail lights, except to the LED's, then taking the brake light supply from the LED strip over the rear window. Problem is, where is the wire routed, presumably from the fuse box in the boot (trunk) ???

With this method you'll get 2 errors on the iDrive.

Couldn't they be disabled with resistors?
Infact as mentioned you could loose the fog light from the circle and connect the rear brake light to that bulb. That will avoid any re-routing of wires and keep all the most used safety features intact except in different places.

On the LCI cars at night only the LED rods are lit. On the pre-LCI cars with the cable retrofit you'll have the LEDs and the dim taillights lit together. But it needs to be this way because if you disconnect the taillights you'll get an error on the idrive and you'll loose the brake lights too (because same bulbs are used).
