Just to clarify, you are asking for an axle back (muffler only). Are the suggestions given axle back? I am in the market too, but from my experience the only power that can be gain is to go with a full exhaust.

You won't be disappointed!

But you sold yours? Why? Too loud and ricey?

I am in the market for an axle back exhaust for my 530i but am more interested in the free flow benefits than the sound. In other words, I would like it to be just a bit louder/deeper sounding than stock. What are my options? Thanks.
An exhaust sound is very subjective. One that's too loud may be perfect for someone else.
Best bet would be to compare sound clips from Remus or RPI.

Here's an RPI install,

And the sound clips,

I haven't sold my car yet so the exhaust is still on my car. It took some getting used to and there was some drone for the first 700 miles but I love it now!

No way in hell the RPi sounds ricey

It's one mean sounding exhaust!
