My Ride: 2011 F10 535i -Brilliant Graphite/Oyster 2006 E5004matic- I must have been on drugs when I got this car 2004 545i Black Sapphire/Truffle Brown interior

Can someone who has tinted their windows dark comment on the effects of the tint on the auto dimming mirrors.

Based on my previous vehicle the auto dimming on the rear view mirrors stops functioning as the tint on the rear window does the same job and the sensor on the mirror no longer pick up any bright lights.

I am more concerned about the exterior side mirrors, where is the sensor for the exterior mirrors? Is it the same sensor as the rear view mirror? If so then I assume that the auto dimming for the exterior mirrors also stops functioning?

Is this correct?

The sensor used for both is the same. Now unless you tint the rear window but not the sides, this shouldn't be an issue. Just as the tinted rear window helps with bright lights from behind, so do my tinted door windows help with the exterior side mirrors. I have not noticed any impact from tinting.

The outside mirrors rely on the interior sensors

I have 20% tint all around... and it is actually safer at night than with no tint.

Headlights to not glare in your eyes as harshly, and keeps you from being blinded.

Sorry to resurrect a post, but I thought it would be better than starting a whole new thread.

I have a question similar to the OP. In California, we can't tint our side windows in the front much, so I'm concerned about tinting the rear window in my E61 because I don't want my side mirrors to stop dimming.

Has anyone else dealt with this? What's the best solution? Tint the rear less?

Also, should I tint my sunroof?

I have tinted my back screen and rear door windows 20% and the front door windows 50%. The dimming functionality still works, but just takes amoment longer to decide to dim as there is less glare coming through the rear.
