Effect of various sizes/styles of exhaust tips

I am moving toward getting Eisenmann exhausts for both my 328 (e93) and 530XiT. One aspect that I am completely unfamiliar with is the choice of tips. Excluding their Race tips, is the choice of shape (round/oval) and size a matter of fine tuning the sound, or pure styling? If there is a sound effect, can you describe the differences between them? Thanks

Thanks. That is what I suspected, but for the cost it seemed there might be more to it.
